Kelexis Davenport is the emcee
for the event. She looks fabulous in a lavender and blue flower on white
background evening gown.
Opening production was canceled
for some reason. Contestants were introduced by Kelexis.
Special entertainment included
Maya Douglas, Ginger Manchester, Layla LaRue and Chevelle Brooks.
I hope the girls are ready b/c
I understand that the stage is VERY slick.
TALENT COMPETITION
- Lady Pearl: Gypsy Rose Lee talent,
original Ethel Merman version. She enters in a short black coat with lapels
and silver short skirt. Seems to be a solo talent. She left the stage,
presumably for a costume change. We can see her hand on the curtain. She
sticks her head out and she has had a wig change. The song is now “Let Me
Entertain You.” She’s holding the curtain together and you can only see her
head. She seems distracted by the costume change that’s happening behind
there. The curtain drops and she has hand-held fans in the front and back.
The fans could stand a little more embellishment. Lip sync was off a couple
of times. The end.
- Monique Johnson: Enters in a gold
“gown” to the floor, lip sync to Linda Eder’s “It’s Time to Risk it All.”
Her hair is black finger waves. A sailor enters and begins slow dancing
with her. Music changes to “Big Time” and she pushes away the sailor, who
exits the stage. Another gentleman enters in a suit. Two more tuxedoed
gentlemen enter and take away her “gown.” She’s in a silver beaded dance
costume. She keeps adjusting the straps of her costume. Three dancers and
they are dancing around her. She goes into a 20s Charleston-type dance with
one of the guys. Crowd lives. She drops the top to reveal silver stone
pasties. Very pleasing overall and mostly clean.
- Joy Marnier: Missy Elliot talent,
with dancers that most will be familiar with b/c they were in Victoria
Lace’s talent last year at Miss USofA. Five dancers in private school
outfits. Joy enters in red sequin sweat suit. One of the boys loses his
tie by mistake. Boys strip their white shirts to reveal green sleeveless
tees. They take away her outfit to reveal black patent leather with green
cob webs. Snatch her wig off to reveal short wig. Her earring falls off
during a dance move. Dancers are excellent and on point throughout. They
do the “river dance” and people live; Explosion at end, dancers fall.
- Chelsea Pearl: Chelsea is doing a
Pussycat Dolls mix. She enters in a silver full length “gown.” Her hair is
jacked to the ceiling. The song is slow and sultry and a dancer is sexily
moving with her. She pushes him off. Typical Chelsea emoting. She takes
her hair down, loses the gown and four dancers enter. The tempo is up and
she moves to the rhythm with the dancers in a boustier and black jacket.
Music changes and she dances to an up-tempo. Girls enter including Natasha
Richards and Monica St. James and they dance around her. Music changes
again to “Don’t Cha.” Another costume change and all come to front for the
big ending.
- Kofi: Begins with her coming to
“audition” for the job of Miss Classic and talking to “Marty.” He asks her
how it feels to be home. She lips syncs “Wonderful” from Dreamgirls. He
takes off her red coat to reveal a silver dance costume. Music changes to
Linda Eder’s “Big Time.” There are four dancers on stage. She dances with
each of them one at a time. Kofi looks great but her she seems reserved and
holding back. Ends in a kick line.
- Joey Wynters: Knock on door,
“we’re ready for you Miss Crawford.” She enters painted as Joan and in a
long black gown over pants – very Joan. Music is Donna Summer’s “This is My
Song.” Music scratches and you hear some dialogue from Joan. Music changes
again to “Paid my Dues.” More Joan dialogue. Then it goes into
R-E-S-P-E-C-T. A couple of verses of that, then Dolly Parton singing “I Beg
Your Pardon.” More Joan dialogue. Then Eartha Kitt’s “Where is My Man?”
More Joan dialogue. Then the 70s tune “Leave me Alone.” Joan says “no more
wire hangers.” Then changes to “I’m a Bitch.” More Joan dialogue.
Explosion at end.
- Purrssia Leialoha: Enters with
flowers as hair and a giant lei around her neck that goes below her waist.
White gown underneath. She lip syncs a slow song that I’m not familiar
with. I think it’s called “Waikiki” based on the fact that the chorus says
the word. It’s a Hawaiian song. She’s barefoot and is doing a hula dance.
Her hair in back goes beyond her booty. Probably about 3 ˝ minutes long.
- Sundae DeLarouge: There’s a giant
prop of a TV Guide. Opens with theme from “All in the Family.” She has a
dead-on Archie Bunker. She’s got a house dress on with a scarf on her
head. They do the song “Those Were the Days.” They leave the stage. Green
Acres theme plays and a farmer with a rake enters singing the theme. Sundae
enters in a silver sequin and feather coat as Eva Gabor. They leave and we
see a commercial with the old Oscar Mayer boy singing BOLOGNA. She enters
in a red sequin outfit and black hair singing the theme from The Nanny.
Another commercial: Almond Joy and Mounds. Sundae enters in a maid outfit
to the theme of Gimme a Break. She’s dusting the floor and doing the song.
Another commercial: Meow mix…meow, meow, meow, meow…Sundae then enters in a
choir robe and does theme from The Jeffersons. Crowd is laughing along with
her, two backup choir singers join her. Fade to black.
- Alexis Winter: She enters in black
tails trimmed in rhinestone, a dance belt and red vest with white tuxedo
shirt and black tie singing what I think is Liza Minelli. Slight stumble.
Four dancers enter in black and white tuxedos. She serenades them and then
they move into a kick line. She seemed to get a little off and ad libbed
some. They do a lift with her. Song changes to “Clang, clang, clang went
the trolley.” They put he on a trunk, which is rolled around the stage.
Music changes again. She seems very hesitant. Back into another kick
line. Lift at end.
- Morgan Wells: Dancers on stage in
Victorian costumes, three males, two females. Morgan enters in a huge
silver gown and white “powdered” wig. She’s lip syncing something I’m not
familiar with but it’s slow and pretty. Dancers pose around her. I think
it’s an opera singer. Music moves up tempo and they dance in unison.
Dancer removes her skirt and the other girls remove theirs to reveal silver
pantsuit type outfits. Song remains the same. They all have small
hand-held fans but she got off the choreography somewhat during the
transition. Very visual talent.
- Alicia Markstone: She enters in a
white mother of the bride type dress with a handkerchief, singing a gospel
song, “His Eye is on the Sparrow.” Music changes and a large black choir in
white robes enter and she “feels the emotion.” Tempo is up. Choir is
choregraphed. Alicia is in front doing her own thing. Alicia then leaves
and two street dancers enter. Choir strip sinto multi-colored t-shirts.
Alicia re-enters in a white capri-pant and vest with rhinestones and does a
little choreography with others. Then moves back in front to do her own
thing.
- Scarlett Daily: She enters in a
poodle skirt, pink sweater and cat-eye glasses, singing a song about her
apartment building. It’s a very cute and comical number. She stopped her
lip sync before the note ended. She’s very emotive and seems to be having a
ball with it. This is a very interesting talent and I wish I could describe
it a little better.
- Alexis O’Hara: She enters in a red
sequin robe to the floor as Liza Minelli. It’s a very good illusion. She’s
doing a monologue from a live show. It goes into Cabaret and she strips the
coat to reveal a black vest and dance costume with white tuxedo shirt and
black tie. She’s dancing alone as Liza. Two dancers enter and she puts on
tails and is handed a cane. She’s doing New York, New York with the backup
boys. A couple of lip sync bobbles but overall good.
- Nancy Taylor: Men in tuxedos with
large white feather fans at stage middle. Boys in orange and silver dance
costumes at sides of stage. Fans open and she’s in a big white feather coat
singing Linda Eder’s “This Time Around.” She looks lovely. She’s very
emotive. Music changes to “I Just wanna be Happy.” She changes to an
orange and silver costume. She’s dancing her heart out. Dancers leave and
she dances alone. Dancers slightly off in places but a very visual talent.
More dancers enter with big silver shiny rain curtain balls on sticks.
Explosion at end. Very entertaining.
- Bridget Nickles: Large American
flag covers the entire backdrop. It’s being held by two “military” guys.
She’s doing a Bette Midler talent. “Stuff like that there,” by herself.
She’s in a military jacket studded with rhinestones. It’s a good illusion.
Lights go out. She changes. There are two girls who do Boogie Woogie Bugle
Boy with her. She re-enters in a red, white and blue flag dance costume.
The choreography is simple but one of the girls is slightly off most of the
time. Ends with her blowing the bugle for real.
- Latisa Moore: Backdrop of a bar
scene with several “patrons.” Music is from Color Purple “Sister.” She’s
in a red furry coat and feather and sequin hat. She finishes the song and
the music changes to the up tempo tune from the same movie. She drops the
coat to reveal a red sequin and black fringe flapper costume. Patrons begin
dancing with her. Simple choreography. She has very sweet friends helping
her with this talent.
Special entertainment includes
Raven St. James, Tenisha Cassidine and Latoya Bacall. Latoya’s real mother is
in the audience tonight.
